Geotourist cited among UK’s top traveltech companies in TechNation Report 2021

TechNation, the UK’s leading technology accelerator for helping high growth companies to scale, including companies like Skyscanner and Deliveroo, featured Tourism Society Member, Geotourist as a disruptive technology platform in the emerging traveltech sector within their latest report. The 2021 report included a foreword from the Prime Minister Boris Johnson on the strength of UK innovation across multiple sectors.

  • Over £1bn has been raised by Traveltech companies in the last 3 years
  • Traveltech companies received over 800 deals in the last 3 years
  • There was record equity investment in Traveltech in 2019 raising £504mn with a record 306 deals
  • Despite the pandemic, Traveltech companies raised £358mn in 2020 from 249 deals

Companies like Skyscanner and Expedia have changed the way we make our flight and hotel bookings, and newer companies like Geotourist which started as a simple platform for storytelling, described by Simon Calder as the, “YouTube of audio-guides”, have recently evolved by creating a powerful data analytics platform to empower destinations to understand what marketing content is actually bringing in visitors and show where people are spending their time in destination.

These unique insights mean destination managers can finally arm themselves with actionable data to make better decisions and help save money, provide a better on-the-ground experience and at the same time, seamlessly steer visitors to places of interest creating revenue opportunities.

Geotourist’s continued growth plans include connecting more destination organisations and attractions across the country and overseas to the analytics platform, building a large data set to help destinations monitor the health of their tourism economies.
